Zusammenfassung: | A magnetic recording head 600 includes a main pole 602 configured to generate a magnetic field for recording data on a magnetic recording medium. An oscillation device 614, such as a spin torque oscillator (STO), is positioned above the main pole in a track direction. The oscillation device is configured to generate a high-frequency magnetic field and a magnetic capping layer 632 is positioned above the oscillation device in the track direction. The magnetic capping layer has a front region 656 at a media facing side of the magnetic recording head and a rear region 658 positioned behind the front region in an element height direction, wherein a thickness t1(mc) of the front region of the magnetic capping layer is less than a thickness t2(mc) of the rear region, and a trailing shield 642 positioned above the magnetic capping layer in the track direction. The magnetic capping layer preserves the thickness of the oscillation device during cleaning, e.g. chemical mechanical polishing, of the insulation layer 662 during manufacture. The cleaning also gives the non-uniform thickness of the magnetic capping layer. The main pole can have a tapered region 644. |
