Tissue bag for morcellating tissue

Apparatus 1 for morcellating tissue comprises a flexible outer container 4, an electrically conductive mesh 17 disposed within the container, and one or more connections (8, 9, Fig 6) by which the mesh can be energised to form at least a part of a bipolar electrode assembly capable of cutting tissue 10 coming into contact therewith. In a first embodiment the apparatus has one or more return electrodes 19 which are located on the apparatus spatially separated from the mesh. In a second embodiment a system for morcellating tissue includes the apparatus and a generator for supplying RF waveform capable of vaporizing tissue to the mesh. The apparatus may further include an elongate shaft 2 from which the flexible outer container can be deployed, and actuators for closing the mesh around tissue to be morcellated, and for deploying and withdrawing the flexible outer container with respect to the shaft.
