Steering lock device

An electric steering lock device 1 includes a lock member 4, a drive unit 6, such as an electric motor, a transmitting mechanism for transmitting a driving force from the drive unit to the lock member, a case 2, a lid 3, and a lock stopper 13 that can move between an engagement position where the stopper is engaged with the lock member and a cancel position where the stopper and lock member are disengaged (figure1). A first biasing unit, such as a spring (20, figure 4) biases the stopper toward the engagement position, and a trigger pin 21 holds the stopper at the cancel position when the lid is in place. Should the lid be removed or deformed the pin no longer holds the stopper back and said stopper is allowed to engage the lock member so as to lock the steering. The device is characterised by a double lock mechanism, such as a pin 14 that, when the stopper moves to the engagement position by the movement of the trigger pin, blocks the stopper from moving back toward the cancel position.
