Zusammenfassung:An on-board electrical system 20 for a grid-enabled vehicle that integrates vehicle traction and charging includes: a bidirectional DC power source (e.g. battery) 22; a first bidirectional converter 24; a second bidirectional converter 26; an electric machine (e.g. motor) 28 having first and second stator field windings 36, 38 that are electromagnetically coupled; and an electric grid input port 30. The system 20 can run in a drive mode or a charging mode. In drive mode, the first and second bidirectional converters 24, 26 respectively supply power from the DC source 22 to the first and second field windings 36, 38 in synchrony. In charging mode, the first bidirectional converter 24 supplies power from the grid to the first field winding 36, and the second field winding 38 is energised by the first field winding 36 to supply energy from the grid to the DC source 22. The stator comprises a plurality of pole segments, each pole segment including a first pole tooth and a second pole tooth, wherein at least some of the pole segments carry a respective winding arrangement. The winding arrangement includes a first field winding portion carried about the first pole tooth and a second field winding carried about the second pole tooth.
