Personal location device

A personal location device includes a body 4, an antenna 26 in the form of a coiled spring biased to unwind and a firing pin 10 movable to release the coiled spring. When the firing pin is actuated, the coiled spring uncoils to automatically extend the antenna. The firing pin may be slid from side to side across the body and then removed from the body. An arming slide has a lock position is which it prevents movement of the firing pin. An actuation button may be obscured by the firing pin or arming slide and may be actuated only when the pin or slide is in the unlocked position. A key 28 may be used to rewind the spring for reuse. The beacon may be arranged to be mounted to a lifejacket. The firing pin may include a tie bar for attaching to a line of a lifejacket. Inflation of the lifejacket may release the firing pin.
