Electrochemical gas sensor system

An electrochemical gas sensor system 100 for detecting harmful gas concentration in an environment 70 comprises a voltage generator 19 and an electrochemical gas sensor 1, a sensor housing 2 with a gas entrance 18, an electrolyte fluid 11 in the housing, and an electrode configuration comprising measuring electrode 3, auxiliary electrode 5, reference electrode 17, and first and second generator electrodes 13,14. The reference electrode is arranged between the generator electrodes which are connected to the voltage generator 19 and with the electrolyte and voltage generator form a galvanic source. A salt (halide) in the electrolyte reacts by means of the galvanic source to form a halogen, wherein a certain, largely stable reference voltage potential sets in at the reference electrode.
