Process for producing a catalyst and catalyst as such

A process for producing an extruded catalyst comprises extruding a catalyst composition 4 to produce a catalyst body 6, where, to set desired rheological properties of the catalyst composition, the catalyst composition comprises an inorganic binder fraction B which is catalytically inactive in a starting state and is composed of at least one inorganic binder component consisting of individual particles and at least part of the inorganic binder fraction has been treated to develop catalytic activity. A catalytically active component Z may be mixed in addition to the binder fraction into the catalyst composition. The catalytically active component may be selected from a zeolite and a molecular sieve. The particles of the at least one inorganic binder component may not have a zeolitic framework structure in the catalytically inactive starting state. The at least one inorganic binder component may be coated with a catalytically active layer, which may be a zeolite layer. A catalyst having an inorganic binder fraction comprising at least one inorganic binder component, where at least part of the inorganic binder fraction has been catalytically activated is also disclosed.
