Composite component and method for its production

A method for producing a composite comprising the steps a) Preparing a layer structure with at least two support layer precursor layers 5 on both sides of a layer of thermoplastic elastomer 6 comprising gaps 10. b) Heating the layer structure to render the thermoplastic elastomer plastic c) Compressing the layer of thermoplastic elastomer 6 between the support layer precursor layers 5. The compressing may take place in a mould. The support layer precursor layers 5 may comprise a layer of fibre material which may be more than half the volume or mass of the layer. A further step of impregnating the support layer precursor layers 5 with resin may be included, before, after or overlapping in time with step c). The elastomer layer 6 may be prefabricated and inserted between the support layer precursor layers 5, one of the support precursor layers 5 may be supplied with resin through the gaps 10 within the elastomer layer 6. Also included is a claim for a composite component comprising the result of the method.
