Printing method

A method for printing an image onto a substrate comprises: (a) at least two printing steps in which radiation-curable inks are ink jet printed onto the substrate; and (b) performing an irradiation treatment after each of the at least two printing steps in which the printed ink is irradiated with a dose of radiation. The dose of radiation used in at least two of the irradiation treatments is not identical and at least one of the irradiation treatments performed before the final printing step is sufficient to cure the ink then present on the substrate. The method can be used to improve chroma, colour gamut, image bleed, definition, gloss and gloss uniformity. The method may include at least four or at least eight printing steps. An irradiation treatment performed after at least one printing step may be sufficient to immobilise/partially cure the ink on the substrate without fully curing the ink.
