Zusammenfassung:	Generating a flow having a composition gradient, such as a mobile phase gradient for liquid chromatography, by initiating a plurality of pump strokes from first and second pumps 38, 50 contributing respective first and second liquids A, B, such as solvents, to the composition gradient of the flow, the pump strokes of the second pump being generated at the same frequency as the pump strokes of the first pump and being interspersed with the strokes of the first pump such that variations in the flow rates of the pumps do not overlap. A phase difference between a sequence of consecutive strokes of the first pump and a sequence of consecutive strokes of the second pump may be approximately 180 degrees. A processor 30 preferably controls the pump strokes and changes the volume contributions of each pump over time to the composition gradient of the flow. Also claimed is a computer programme product for generating a flow having a composition gradient.
