A modification module for use in combination with a head unit and method for operating such a head unit

A modification module is used in combination with a head unit for a vehicle for displaying information according to a video data stream received by the display. The video module is for generating an original video data stream based on signals received from further components of the head unit and/or the vehicle via one or more interfaces. The modification module is arranged for receiving the original video data stream from the video module and providing a video data stream to the display. It is configured to execute an image recognition on the original video data stream, where data that represent images to be displayed in one or more predefined areas of interest 4, 4, 4, 4 of the display are analysed, and where a result of said image recognition is used for further processing. It is intended to provide a head unit for a vehicle that is flexible enough to adjust to future needs of a consumer, in particular to specifically support consumer electronic devices such as smartphones that the consumer will want to use in the vehicle.
