The treatment of inflammatory disorders

Nalidixic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or an analogue of formula (II) thereof for use in the treatment or prevention of an inflammatory disorder wherein X and X1 independently represent CH or N; X2 represents C(R2) or N where R2 is hydrogen, a substitutent as herein defined or R2 may form part of a cycle with R1; X4 represents C(R4) or N where R4 is hydrogen, a substitutent as herein defined or R4 may form part of cycle with R3; and R1, R3 and R5 are each as herein defined. Preferably, the inflammatory disorder is selected from a respiratory disease such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a chronic degenerative disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, a dermatological condition such as psoriasis, scleroderma or atopic dermatitis, a chronic demyelinating disease such as multiple sclerosis, an inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease, a dental disease such as periodontal disease or gingivitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, diabetic neuropathy, lupus nephritis, IgA nephropathy or glomerulonepritis, graft versus host disease or an ophthalmic condition. Exemplified is the use of nalidixic acid for the treatment of asthma via intranasal administration.
