Zusammenfassung:A plunger 46 (or impeller) of a pump has an abrasion and spalling resistant coating 56 with a thickness greater than 75% of the clearance gap between a seal 26 or pump sidewall and the plunger. The coating thickness ensures that it is resistant to abrasive particles having a small enough size to enter and become trapped the space between the seal and the plunger. The coatings may be multilayered coatings and have improved resistance to erosion, corrosion and delamination when exposed to hard particles present in a pumped slurry.
