Zoom-in display of image data such as radar images or nautical charts

A method and associated device for displaying images. The method includes displaying the image and then specifically displaying a selected area that is at least part of the displayed image (using for example a selecting window, 32.) The image corresponding to the selecting window is acquired and then zoomed (for example using zoom button, 31) and displayed in a predetermined display area (such as a zoom display window, 33.) The position and size of the selecting window and/or the size of the zoom display area are then adjusted. The zooming function may involve enlarging, magnifying or shrinking the acquired image. The invention can be used to facilitate navigation and display of information such as radar images and nautical charts on an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) as used on board ships.
