Method and apparatus for using a direct mode gateway with one synthesizer

The invention lies in a Direct Mode Operation (DMO) gateway with one synthesizer to switch between contiguous timeslots. A TETRA direct mode gateway is configured to transmit and receive information using a single synthesizer. The TETRA direct mode gateway exchanges data with one of a direct mode communication device and a network device on a first set of timeslots. The TETRA direct mode gateway also exchanges data with the other of the one of the direct mode communication device and the network device on a second set of timeslots. Each timeslot in the second set of timeslots is shorter than each timeslot in the first set of timeslots, thereby providing a synthesizer switching time for the single synthesizer to switch between contiguous timeslots. The invention discloses modified TETRA Enhanced Data Services (TEDS) timeslots.
