Zusammenfassung:	A fixation device such as a bone implant 30, particularly for use in total hip replacement, comprises a stem 31 having an inner rod 36 and an outer auxetic component 40. Once the stem 31 is located in the femur, rotation of the rod 36 through a threaded bore 35 causes expansion of the outer auxetic component 40 so as to secure the bone implant in place in the surrounding bone cavity.
