Zusammenfassung: | A cleaner head for a cleaning appliance such as a vacuum cleaner comprises a rotatable agitator assembly 60, an agitator chamber 62 housing the agitator assembly 60, and a sole plate (26, fig 2) defining a downwardly-directed opening (36, fig 5) through which debris energised by the agitator assembly 60 enters the agitator chamber 62. The opening (36, fig 5) has a front edge 42 and a rear edge 44, and the sole plate (26, fig 2) has a leading section 32 extending forwardly from the front edge 42 of the opening (36, fig 5) and a trailing section 34 extending rearwardly from the rear edge 44 of the opening (36, fig 5). A set of support members 48, 50 is located on each section 32, 34 of the sole plate (26, fig 2), the support members 48, 50 extending downwardly beyond the sole plate (26, fig 2) to support the sole plate (26, fig 2) above a relatively hard floor surface. The support members 48, 50 have a thickness which is less than 5 mm so that the support members 48, 50 can sink between the fibres of a relatively soft, carpeted floor surface to bring the edges 42, 44 of the opening (36, fig 5) into contact with the carpeted floor surface. The lowermost extremities of the sets of support members 48, 50 are located in a first plane P1, and the edges 42, 44 of the opening (36, fig 5) are located in a second plane P2 which is inclined upwardly relative to the first plane P1. The agitator assembly 60 comprises agitating members 72 which extend outwardly from the opening (36, fig 5) beyond the second plane P2 but within the first plane P1. |
