Zusammenfassung:	This invention relates to powered medical devices such as portable oxygen generators. A powered portable oxygen concentrator (POC) is described comprising a heat engine 14 e.g. closed cycle gas engine or sterling engine, coupled to a portable oxygen concentrator 24 to power the portable oxygen concentrator 24. The POC comprises a gas to separate nitrogen from the received air and provide an oxygen enriched gas. The nitrogen is vented through an exhaust port 32 and fed back into the chamber/crankcase of the closed cycle gas engine 14 to pressurise the chamber. In another aspect a self pressuring closed cycle gas engine is described.
