Zusammenfassung:Heat generated by a heat sink, such as a coldhead, of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system 20 is removed by a cooling system using exhaust helium gas from a helium vessel of the superconducting magnet. A coldhead sleeve 30 receives a coldhead 28 of the MRI system and a cooling system 40 surrounds an outer surface of the coldhead sleeve. The cooling system 40 consists of a cooling tube that uses helium gas obtained via gas passageway 38 from the helium vessel 22 of the MRI magnet 34 to remove heat from the coldhead sleeve 30. When the coldhead 28 is not operational, for example during power down or failure of the coldhead, the cooling system 40 cools the coldhead sleeve using boiled off helium from the magnet vessel 22 and reduces heat flow into the thermal shield 26 and magnet vessel 22 of the MRI system.
