Zusammenfassung:	A method of preselecting a gear in a double-clutch transmission 1 comprises a step of measuring at least two types of transmission speed of the double-clutch transmission 1, a step of evaluating the at least two types of transmission speed, a step of determining a next gear of the double-clutch transmission 1 and a step of preselecting the next gear. The types of transmission speed may be an input speed of the transmission 1, an acceleration of an output of the transmission 1. The determining step may comprise predicting a higher or lower gear in dependence of whether an engine is accelerating or decelerating. Speed sensors 90, (94, fig 2) and (96) provide signals representing engine speed, vehicle acceleration and wheel speed to a transmission control unit (98) which controls the preselecting of a gear in the transmission 1.
