Load balancing between streaming servers dependent upon streaming server load

A system comprising an apparatus and method for redirecting a client device to a streaming server configured to store content. The apparatus stores and associates streaming server identifiers with data representing streaming server loads comprising a current load and a load limit. In response to a request from a client device that identifies the content and a type of the content (S400) a streaming server having capacity to handle the request is selected (S404) and its identifier is sent to the client (S406). The type corresponds to one of a plurality of different streaming server loads and may be associated with one or more of screen aspect ratio and video bit rate. Upon selection a streaming server may update the apparatus with its current load. The system may comprise at least two apparatus sharing an IP address.
