Zusammenfassung:	An axle having a differential crown wheel mounted in a central crown wheel receiving portion with a pinion side and an opposite side. The opposite side being defined by a first dome shaped crown wheel bowl having a peripheral edge 32. The axle including a second dome shaped crown wheel bowl nested within the first crown wheel bowl and being attached to the first crown wheel bowl by an annual flange 44 at the peripheral edge 32 so that surfaces of the bowls are spaced apart to define a reservoir which contains lubricating oil. An arcuate trough 54 which surrounds the crown wheel and contains an air actuated valve 63 that when open allows oil to flow from the reservoir into an area of the trough around the crown wheel. Scoop 62 collects oil splashed from the crown wheel and allows the oil to drain into the reservoir.
