Systems and methods for managing power consumption

A means is provided for managing power consumption in GPS navigation devices or devices incorporating GPS receivers 210. A receiver 130 includes a time reference device 340 that generates data associated with a GPS system time, and a temperature recorder circuit 310 that utilises the generated data from the time reference device 340, and monitors its temperature while the receiver hibernates. The receiver further includes memory 325 and a power manager 330 that has instructions, which are processed by a processing device 335 after the receiver wakes up. The instructions associated with the power manager 330 provide a means for: determining if the temperature recorder circuit 310 sent a wake-up signal; reading data from the temperature recorder circuit 310; and adjusting parameters associated with the time reference device 340 and/or the temperature recorder circuit 310. The invention is particularly suited to improving the battery life of GPS navigation devices or devices incorporating GPS receivers.
