Zusammenfassung:A variable inductor structure for varying an inductance responsive to a digital tuning signal comprises a first inductor 206, a second, adjustable, inductor 204a & 204b, and a digital control mechanism 201 configured to receive the digital tuning signal and to adjust the effective inductance of the second inductor by means of switches 203 in response to the digital tuning signal. The second inductor 204 is positioned sufficiently close to the first inductor 206 so as to be capable of altering by mutual inductance the effective inductance of the first inductor in dependence on the digital tuning signal. The first inductor 206 may form part of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) in a phase locked loop.
