Zusammenfassung:An emergency communication system and electro-acoustic transducer is described for detection of a pressure wave associated with an emergency event, such as the sound of air bag deployment during a car crash, and for automatic initiation of an emergency call to a remote location. The electro-acoustic transducer has a diaphragm that can be displaced under the influence of the pressure wave, the transducer can therefore be monitored for an event occurrence indicative of the pressure wave. This monitoring may involve passively monitoring at least one electrical connection of the transducer for an electrical signal of at least a predetermined level, such that the electrical signal is the event indicative of the pressure wave. Alternatively, or in addition the monitoring may involve passively monitoring a pressure switch, such that activation of the pressure switch is the event indicative of the pressure wave. The pressure switch may comprise a first contact means associated with the diaphragm and a second contact means separated from the first contact means such that the first contact means mechanically contacts the second contact means on displacement of the diaphragm by the pressure wave. The pressure transducer may be a vehicle loudspeaker or the speaker of a mobile phone. Upon detection of the pressure wave event, a trigger signal may be output to an emergency notification device to instigate a communication regarding a possible emergency situation. The emergency notification device may comprise a mobile phone (mobile telecommunications terminal). A claim is included to a method of activating the mobile phone whereby if the mobile phone has been shut down due to a low battery, a shorter start-up procedure is used without displaying the normal start-up screens with operator logos etc. This enables an emergency call to still be made using the remaining restricted battery life (battery charge).
