The method comprises applying the coating of uniform thickness onto lateral surface 18 of a valve seat 16, a portion of the valve seat bore 22, and the chamfered edge between the valve seat lateral surface 18 and the valve seat bore 22. The valve seat bore 22 can include an annular recess 55 formed to receive a layer of coating.
