Zusammenfassung: | An inductive electrical coupler, suitable for underwater use, comprises a two part inductive coupling 31, 32 where each of the first 31 and second 32 parts of the coupling includes a transformer winding 22, 23 and magnetic core portion 21, 41. The said parts 31, 32 are arranged such that they can be slide into association to form a complete transformer. The first and second parts 31, 32 may be respective male and female coupling members. E and/or I- shaped core members may be used. One winding 23 of the coupler may be for low voltages typical of a turbine generator whilst the other winding 22 may be for high voltages for supplying an electricity distribution system. One part 31 of the coupler may be securely mounted to a support tower and the other part 32 may be integrated with a nacelle of a submerged turbine. Plural coupling parts may be used with segment parts being arranged about a common axis. The windings 23, 22 may be formed using waterproof cable or they may be encapsulated in epoxy resin to prevent water ingress. A flush-fit mechanism may be used to displace media such as water from between the parts when they are combined. The coupler provides a simple breakable electrical coupling which allows associated equipment, such as a turbine, to be easily removed for maintenance and re-installed. |
