Simultaneous display of a search image on a screen

A digital image processing apparatus includes storage (70, fig. 1) for storing moving picture files and a display unit 80 for displaying the stored video. When a user inputs a search signal, such as by pressing a fast forward 226 or rewind button 224, whilst the video is being displayed, then the video is displayed in a first window 81 and the video for searching is simultaneously displayed on the display in a second area 82. When the desired point is reached stopping the search results in the video from that point being displayed in full screen mode (fig. 6). Frame skipping techniques are used to display the search video at high speed.
