Zusammenfassung:Data concerning usage of a publication (1000) is gathered by means of detecting a condition, for example a page (1010, 1020) of the publication (1000) being subject to a force associated with flexing by a user reading the publication (1000). Raw data extending over time is processed (1180) in order to characterize usage of the publication (1000). Such forces may be detected by means of a piezoelectric element (1070), or by means of a motion sensor. The usage data may be communicated to a portable monitor (1170) carried by the user. The means may further comprise a light sensor, temperature sensor and/or proximity sensor and the portable monitor (1170) may receive position data. Individuals' usage of magazines, newspapers and books my thereby be monitored.
