Vacuum brushroll edge cleaner

An agitator assembly 100 for a vacuum cleaner comprises a spindle 102 having a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis. The first end includes an edge cleaning assembly 108 that is attached to the remainder of the spindle 102 and rotationally fixed relative thereto by one or more rotationally interlocking structures 152 formed integrally with the edge cleaning assembly 108. At least one primary agitator 104 is attached to the spindle 102 between the first and second ends and three or more edge agitators 146 are mounted on the edge cleaning assembly 108 and arranged in a circumferential pattern around the spindle 102. The at least one primary agitator 104 and the edge agitators 146 are preferably bristle tufts and the at least one agitator 104 may comprise two helical rows of bristle tufts. Preferably, at least one of the edge agitators 146 is more flexible than the at least one primary agitator 104.
