Kit for light stimulation of cartilage, with removable adhesive to secure a light source to the skin

The kit comprises a removable adhesive 5 for application to the skin 6, with at least two lightemitting diodes 2 which can be secured by the adhesive to direct light towards cartilagecontaining tissue in the body. Preferably, a strip or array of LEDs is secured to the skin and emits light predominantly in the wavelength range of 540 to 560 nanometres or 570 to 590 nanometres in order to be absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood. Means may be provided to control the time and intensity of illumination and to pulse it on and off. The adhesive is preferably water based and may be a settable or thixotropic gel containing polyvinyl alcohol, alginates, carrageenan, cellulose or silicone.
