Imaging material

The image receiving material includes two ink receptive layers comprising polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) binder, and boric acid or borate hardener. The upper layer and preferably the lower layer also contain particulate inorganic pigment. The lower layer contains more boric acid than the upper layer (compared to PVOH) so the upper layer has a higher pH. Preferably the substrate is baryta-coated or fine art paper. Preferably an ink receptive layer includes a dye fixative comprising a Zn, Ca or Mg cation, and a co-polymer of dicyandiamide and diethylene triamine. The image receiving material is used in the ink jet printing process.
