Instant replay of digital broadcast data

An apparatus for the instant replay of digital broadcast data comprises a receiver 110 for receipt of digital broadcast data, a controller 150 for sending received data to a memory 120 and a decoder 130. The decoder decodes received broadcast data for display on player 140. Upon detection of a replay order from a user, the controller initiates retrieval of recently stored video frame data from memory and supplies this to the decoder to enable viewing of the stored frames. The memory may be in the form of a RAM or EEPROM, and is cyclically updated and overwritten such that only the most recent frames prior to those currently received are stored, within a predetermined timeslot. The amount of video data stored is determined by the capacity of the memory. The apparatus allow the instant replay of recent image data without the necessity for additional conventional recording means. A method for instant replay of digital broadcast data and a digital television with an instant replay function are also claimed.
