The invention provides a joist hanger 100, (200 figure 6) having a shoe 112, (212 figure 6) for supporting a joist the shoe retaining in use an end of the joist spaced from a supporting structure to which the hanger is attached to define a duct opening 126, (226 figure 6) between the end of the joist and the supporting structure.
