Removable waste container for a sink

A sink unit comprises a sink element 12 having a waste outlet 24 in communication with a drain inlet 30, and a removable waste container 16 for collecting solid waste and which is positionable beneath the sink element 12 and interposable between the waste outlet 24 of the sink element 12 and the drain inlet 30. The removable waste container 16 includes a waste inlet 48 which, when the container 16 is positioned beneath the sink element 12, is in communication with the waste outlet 24 of the sink element 12, and a waste liquid outlet 52 which is in fluid communication with the drain inlet 30. In use and with the removable waste container 16 positioned beneath the sink element 12, liquid and solid waste moves from the sink element 12 to the removable waste container 16 and the liquid waste then drains through the waste liquid outlet to the drain inlet 30 leaving the solid waste in the container 16, and with the container 16 removed, liquid and solid waste moves from the sink element 12 to the drain inlet 30 without passing through the container 16. Preferably, the removable waste container 16 includes a, typically automatic, valve device for opening and closing the waste liquid outlet 52.
