Zusammenfassung:	Sound absorbers comprise a porous material constituted by a plurality of cylindrical shaped particles 35. The arrangement of cylindrical shaped particles 35 is such that the porosity of the sound absorber is greatest on the outer surface of the sound absorber and the porosity of the material decreases with distance from the surface. Many other structures are disclosed including one with close packed cylinders (fig 3) and foam (fig 4). The cylindrical particles may be fibre or wire. The cylindrical particles may be of uniform dimension or may vary in length and/or diameter.
