Separable plug for use in a wellbore

An apparatus and method for conveying and operating tools in a wellbore. The methods include running a selectively separable plug member 100 accommodating a tool 180 into the wellbore 10 on a continuous rod 175 and positioning the separable plug member 100 adjacent to a receiver member 55 disposed in the wellbore 10. The method further includes manipulating the weight of the continuous rod 175 to seat the plug member 100 in the receiver 55, or manipulating the weight of the continuous rod 175 to separate the portions of the plug 100 and then using the rod to then run a portion of the plug and the tool 180 further into the wellbore. In another aspect a selectively separable plug, comprising a first portion attached to a rod and having a plurality of rings that expand upon application of a force, a second portion, accommodating a tool, and a selectively actuatable member that allows separation of the portions upon application of a predetermined force is also provided.
