Zusammenfassung:The core and/or cladding of the waveguide is made from silica germania titania glass. The glass has molar ratios Ge/ (Si + Ge + Ti) = 0.08-0.17 and Ti/ (Si + Ge + Ti) = greater than naught to 0.08, and preferably a refractive index = 1.48-1.52 at 1550 nm and coefficient of thermal expansion at room temperature = 3 x 10 -4.4 x 10 {C. The refractive index of the core layer is higher than the refractive index of the cladding layer. The layers are deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition. The wave guides are used in liquid crystal based cross-connect optical switching devices.
