Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:	A projection adapter (51) is provided for attaching to a display (51) so as to form a projected enlarged image of an image displayed by the display (51). The display is of the direct view reflective or transflective type and does not require any modification when cooperating with the projection adapter (50) to function as a projection display. The adapter comprises an illumination section (52) and a projection section (56) with optional beam steering optics (54) supported by a common support arrangement. A front optical element (55) is arranged to overlay the display (51) with the projection adapter in use. The illumination section (52) forms an off-axis image of a light source and the front optical element (55) images light reflected by the reflective or transflective display (51) to an image which is laterally displaced from the light source image. The projection section (56) projects a magnified image of the image displayed by the display (51) onto a screen (57) which may form part of or be distinct from the adapter (50). The display (51) may be an LCD and may be part of a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a games console or a vehicle dashboard.
