Zusammenfassung:	A water repellent composition containing an alkali metal alkylsiliconate, xanthan gum, an alkylene glycol, and optionally water, can be used to provide mineral building materials, particularly those that are porous, such as masonry building blocks and concrete with water repellent properties. A preferred alkylsiliconate is potassium methylsiliconate and preferred alkylene glycols are mono-ethylene or mono-propylene glycol. An alkali metal hydroxide, for example potassium hydroxide, may also be included in the composition.
