The cutting portion extends from the base and comprises a crown 340 with a cutting surface 333 including a plurality of spaced apart cusps 341, 342, 343. The cusps may be partially dome shaped or arcuately shaped. The cusps may be circumferentially spaced around the crown, and/or placed in central position 345. The insert is of particular application in the gage row of the roller cone.
