Zusammenfassung:	An insert 100 for a drill bit which includes a diamond impregnated body, and a shearing potion 110 disposed on the body, where the shearing potion 110 may be formed separately from the insert body and bonded to it. In addition, a method for forming a drill bit that includes (a) forming a shearing portion 110 on a diamond impregnated insert body to form a cutting insert 100, (b) forming a bit body, which may also be diamond impregnated, having a plurality of sockets to receive the inserts, and (c) fixing the inserts in the bit body; wherein steps (a) to (c) are carried out such that the total exposure of the diamond impregnated insert 100 to temperatures above 1000 {F (538{C) is greater than the total exposure of the shearing portion 110 to temperatures above 1000 {F (538{C).
