Zusammenfassung:The air intake cooling system for a turbocharged or supercharged i.c. engine, eg a diesel engine, comprises a cooler 6 disposed in an intake passage 3 downstream of a turbocharger or supercharger 5 and a cooler bypass passage 7 with a bypass control valve 8, eg thermostatically actuated. A flow restriction means, eg orifice 9, is provided in the bypass passage 7 to limit the flow rate in the bypass passage in the event that the bypass control valve fails in the open position, risking damaging overheating of the engine. The orifice 9 may be dimensioned so that, only above a critical flow rate, the total bypass flow rate is restricted to 50% of the maximum design flow rate.
