Portable document scanner having central linear image detector and position detectors

A portable, hand held document scanner comprises a elongate image detector array 152. This linear image sensor 152 is centrally positioned and surrounded by plural position or location sensors 156 - 159. As shown, the groups of several position detectors and the line image detector are linearly arranged along parallel axes. The image sensor array may extend beyond the position or navigation detectors by small distances 182, 184 at each end of the scanner body. All image and position sensors may be mounted directly on a printed circuit board (PCB). The portable scanner also comprises a display and associated controls (124, 126, 130, 132, Figure 7).
