Zusammenfassung:An inertial braking system 408 for a block and tackle window balance comprises a track 412, a translatable brake assembly 410 disposed in the track 412 and coupled to the block assembly 410 wherein the brake assembly 410 activates in response to rapid acceleration of the block assembly 410 along the track 412. The brake assembly 410 may comprise a pawl 414 which pivots in response to rapid acceleration of the brake assembly 410 to engage a braking surface 413 of the track 412. The pawl 414 may comprise a serrated frictional surface forming part of an arcuate surface having a first end circumferentially disposed a first radial distance from the pivot point 416 of the pawl 414 and a second end circumferentially disposed a second radial distance from the pivot point 416 of the pawl 414. The pawl 414 may be biassed into stowed non-braking position as shown by a spring 420.
