Zusammenfassung:	A capacitive sensor (2) for use on a vehicle bumper (1) or body panel for proximity detection comprises a sensor that is integrally moulded into either the back face or the middle of the bumper or panel. The sensor comprises conductors (3, 5) separated by an insulating layer (4) and is held onto the bumper during the bumper moulding process whilst plastic is injected so as to seal the sensor into the bumper itself. Electrical connections (7) are made to the back of the sensor. The integrated sensor bumper unit is suitable for high volume production and removes the need for protective layers over the sensor conductors.
