Zusammenfassung:	A network unit (fig.2) for use in a cascade of units provides for a packet forwarded onto the cascade a special header (DPK) that indicates whether a destination port within the system is known for the packet, and also can identify such a destination port (DestPID) and the unit on which it is located as well as the source port (SrcPortID) and the unit on which it is located. This header allows for a 'loop back' operation to heal the data path after unit failure.
