G-protein coupled receptor for neuromedin

An assay method for agents that modulate activity of the g-protein coupled receptor with the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 whereby the agent is for use in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a pulmonary disorder, cancer or non-insulin diabetes. The assay may be carried out in the presence of neuromedin U from rat (NmU-23) or porcine (NmU-8 or NmU-25). Preferably the method is carried out in smooth walled muscle cells, more preferably these are pulmonary and the receptor is labelled. The use of a polypeptide according to SEQ ID NO:2 or a variant of said sequence, its encoding polynucleotide or antisense complement or a modulating compound is the manufacture of a medicament for treating pulmonary diseases, cancer or diabetes is claimed. The pulmonary diseases include bronchospam, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema or bronchiectasis.
