Bicycle freecoaster hub

A BMX bicycle has a freecoaster hub with a body 10 having mounted thereto an external cone clutch plate 14 which engages with a mating cone clutch plate 17 fixed to a chain driven cog 15 via a clutch driver 16. When the cog 15 is rotated, by pedalling in a direction to drive the bicycle forward, screw threads on the clutch driver 16 cause matching screw threads on the clutch plate 17 to move the clutch plate 17 axially along axle 11 into engagement with clutch plate 14 so as to rotate the hub body 10. If pedalling stops the clutch plates 14, 17 are disengaged thereby enabling the cog 15 and hub body 10 to revolve independently of one another so that a rear wheel fixed to hub body 10 can rotate in either direction without causing a crank and pedals to move. The clutch plates 17 and driver 16 are mounted on the axle 11 in such a way that they may be readily removed without disturbing the hub body 10 or clutch plate 14. In other embodiments the clutch plates 14, 17 may be provided with interlocking teeth.
