Printhead skew and bow correction

A method for eliminating skew and bow defects resulting from alignment errors in printheads comprises application of an electronic printhead skew correction to image data corresponding to at least one of a plurality of image planes (eg black, cyan, yellow, magenta image planes) to generate skew corrected image data. The halftone screens associated with the image planes are then modified to eliminate noise resultant from the skew correction. If text characters are present, block boundaries are shifted to reside in the spaces between adjacent text characters.
